Cage Ladders – Layers and Model Roles

For the Cage ladder as part of the PowerPack for Advance Steel Stairs and railings,  we have a number of dedicated model roles, these are automatically assigned when the ladder and cage elements are created.     These Model roles can also be linked to the Standard Feature of Advance Steel to place them on an assigned layer,  lets walk thorough those steps to create those layers in your template and added the model roles to the layer assignment tables of Advance steel .

Model Roles

Within the System these are a series of model roles applied thorough the macro creation, these are listed below:

  • Ladder Stile
For the main Stiles, splayed elements, and the loop over parts of the ladder.
  • Ladder Rung
The ladder rungs of the ladder assembly and the rungs in the ladder step of area.
  • Ladder Hoop
These are for the hoops in the cages of the ladder.
  • Ladder Strap
These are for the vertical strap elements that apart of the cage bodies.
  • Ladder Support
This is the bracket that is attached to the ladder stile, which form the fixing to the supporting structure.

Note: Use of other standard model roles typically used for elements such as beams, plates, bolts, welds are applied during the macro creation.

Layers for cage ladder

Although the standard template will not have a dedicated layers for  the Cage Ladder macro, these can be easily added to the AStemplate and then made available each time a model is created.

To do this you need to open the AStemplate ( or create a copy of it and then open it)

  • Example location:  C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2025\Country folder\Shared\Support\Templates

When in the template file, layers can be added to the file via the AutoCAD layers  properties manager, using the ‘New layer’ button.

Adding to the  ‘Object Layer Assignment’ Table

The layers and the model roles need to be linked up inside the Advance Steel system this is done by accessing the Object Layer assignment table and adding some additional lines to the table.

Under the Manager Tool Application, the user can access the Table editor and filter to the ‘Object Layer Assignment’ table,  once in the table the layers can be added, and the model role assigned to that realtive layer.

Close the table after the last entry is made and then  remember to reload the defaults and use the new template to start your Cage ladder model from.
