How Graitec helped IKO further optimise their Autodesk Vault environment and implement electronic ECO resulting in better control over file revision, tracking, drawing review and approval processes, while leveraging BIM for manufacturing.
Context
Founded in 1951, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, IKO is a world-wide leader in the roofing, waterproofing and insulation industry for residential and commercial markets. This vertically integrated company operates more than 35 manufacturing plants throughout North America and Europe.
Committed to investing in state-of-the-art technology and manufacturing to meet the ever-changing needs of their customers, IKO also manufactures and supplies the bulk of their own materials so they can better control quality and demand.
As IKO’s products continue to evolve and improve to meet customer demands, so must the manufacturing processes, technology, and equipment.
Challenge
Maintaining and updating current plants, production lines and equipment, while also building new plants and state-of-the-art production lines, are huge endeavours carried out by dedicated IKO engineers and designers. In a competitive world, the challenges remain: streamlining processes, improving communication and ensuring access to accurate project designs and data so projects with increased complexity may be delivered faster, at the best possible cost.
Solution
After many years working with AutoCAD and Inventor, IKO added Vault Basic to manage equipment and plant project files. As projects became more complex, better workflows were required. Implementing Vault Professional helped move away from manual paper trails and email collaboration which are conducive to costly mistakes and inefficiencies. By deploying a structured electronic collaboration environment and Engineering change orders, IKO gained better control over file revision, drawing review and approval processes with tracking, traceability, and accountability for all project contributors, internal and external.
OTHER SOLUTIONS DEPLOYED: AutoCAD Electrical is used to deliver more accurate documentation for electrical design. Plant 3D is used to include 3D process and instrumentation diagrams. Revit allows IKO to model the building space, and Navisworks Manage allows users to integrate all elements of the design in one space.
