What is BIM, and why is it so important?

Building Information Modeling, or BIM, is spearheading the digitization of the construction industry by allowing contractors, architects and engineers to collaborate in real time on a construction project using the same database and digital model.

BIM is more than a tool, it is a way of working. BIM is driving a digital transformation that will revolutionize the way we design, plan and build complex projects.

The “I” in BIM stands for “information” that can be exchanged between different team members in a shared, cloud-based environment. From planning and design to construction and operation, the various stakeholders can capture all the physical and functional characteristics and relationships of a project in a 3D model. This data can then be viewed and updated in real time, enabling much more efficient and complex collaborations. All this can be done while ensuring data confidentiality and security.
