Joining A Structural Column And Structural Wall In Revit 1

Whilst using Autodesk Revit to create a structural model, If you have ever placed concrete columns in a concrete wall you will probably have seen that in the 3D view the columns can look like separate elements, but the thing is you want them look like one element (and join). At this point you’ll probably try the join tool, but it doesn’t work.

Then you remember that for the join tool to work, the elements you want to join must be the exact same material, for example the column and wall both need to be concrete, cast in place grey.

So, you check the materials for both the column and wall and set them both to Concrete, cast in place grey. Unfortunately, sometimes at this point they still look like sperate elements and worst of all the join tool still doesn’t seem to work.

Well I have a simple fix for you, which is to just change the wall structural usage from bearing to shear.
