As part of the Graitec UK Advance Steel User Day held online on 2 & 9 September 2020 we decided to run a Model Competition. Customers were invited to submit up to 5 models per company. Graitec staff would create rendered images of the models to show during the User Day and use for judging.

We were very pleased to have several senior Autodesk staff attend and the competition was judged by Gernot Jeromin (Product Manager Advance Steel and Revit Structural Steel) and Philippe Bonneau (Technical Marketing Manager for Structural Steel solutions).

In total over 50 models were received from 20 companies. These covered a wide range of creations from buildings, stair, railings, bridges, gates, balconies and even a ping-pong table.

For judging, the models were divided into the three categories of Stairs and Railings, Structures and Miscellaneous. Autodesk only had the images to work from and had to base their decision purely on what they could see there.

Impressed with the quality and range of models on offer, judging was difficult and there were several models in each category that each could have won. In the end Honourable Mentions were given to the top few in each category as in the images.

Forced into making a decision of just one winner the verdict went to the Urban Sports Park by Metalfab Engineering. This was selected because of the complex shape of the building involving curved and sloping walls resulting in many complex angles and non-standard joints. Also, the structure included concrete elements and stairs and railings in some places, so it covers many areas.

Congratulations to David May who will receive the prize of a “CadMouse Pro Wireless” kindly donated by 3D Connexion.
